Specifically, Naomi, Wynonna and Ashley Naomi, born in 1946, married Michael Ciminella in 1963. Wynonna was born in 1964 and Ashley in 1968. A few years ago, Wynonna learned her biological father was actually Charles Jordan, who died in 2000 at age 56.

Why would you not tell your child who their true biological parent was in the first place, let alone waiting until she's something like 40 and having kids of her own? I cannot imagine how I would have reacted if something like that had happened to me. It would definitely make me question all sorts of other things that I had always been told as the truth. This is especially amazing when you consider how closely Naomi and Wynonna were through the years. It also makes me wonder if either Jordan or Ciminella knew the truth.

Recently, Ashley was featured on the TV show "Who Do You Think You Are?" which features a different celebrity each week researching their own genealogy. Ashley researched her Ciminella family roots. By doing so, she excluded any connection to both her mother and her half-sister. Maybe they researched the Judd family first and discovered nothing but liars and cheats. That wouldn't have been a positive message for the show.

That happened to a good friend of ours, Gwen. She grew up with a mother and father she assumed to be her birth parents and fairly late in life, she found out her biological father had split when she was quite young. The baby-daddy is now dead but she has made contact with her half-siblings from his subsequent marriage and although she didn't know them growing up, they have become pretty close.

To her, her mom's husband is her dad. The two sisters she grew up with are closer to her than her half-siblings she's only known for a while but it hasn't been that traumatic of an event to her as far as I can tell. And, she's got an on-going feud with one sister that makes her relationship with her new-found family seem easier.

Nowadays, it seems like it is unusual for all of a family's siblings to have all the same birth parents. With half of marriages ending in divorce, there's a lot of mixing and matching that seemed odd when I was a kid. I'm not making any value judgment about whether parents should stay in miserable marriages for the kids but there's just a way different sense of family than what I grew up with in a lot of cases where joint custody is involved.

Have you ever watched a "You are not the father" episode of Maury Povich?

I find it rather disgusting, to say the least.

I watched that show and wondered why she didn't include her mom and sister either. I was oogling over her diamond rings. :-$

It was interesting to see that her one ancestor came over on the Mayflower!! Wow!! A founding father and pilgrim of our country. Her dad (Mr. Ciminella) seemed very mellow and kind. 🙂

I know of people that have been denied knowledge of their true birth father. In each case it was at the hand of the mother and her family basically rewriting the birth history thru paperwork and following that with denial, intimidation and threats. It amazes me what money and certain lawyers can accomplish.

I agree, those people on "you are not the father" episodes are disgusting.

You would be surprised how many of us have ancestors that traveled here on the Mayflower--not really that exclusive a club.

Crap! Just found out that George Bush and I share a common Mayflower ancestor.

😉

Damn! Sarah Palin too!
