With my newly minted Minnesota license I am trying to mentally prepare for the inevitable. Not so sure this was the best thread to read. Then again, it could be a good one...

No luck in finding an old thread on surveying in Minnesota northwoods?

And it is NOT the carbon dioxide gas given off in the maturation process as has been generally reported...read on:

Well, yes it is the CO2, but the little particles tell the gas WHERE to make the hole by weakening the structure.

Curious, in those conditions I suspect one would need the "Cold Weather" version of Total Stations? Oh the things to think about. Hand warmers for batteries - mandatory.

A crew chief I worked under many moons ago would nip from a half pint schnapps bottle on cold days behind the gun. His son, while running the gun, would burn a bundle of lath while we staked out subdivisions.?ÿ

Battery powered, heated jackets. Battery powered, heated socks. Good wind breaker over it all.

If it's not damp cold, it's not too bad. I learned to ski up north of St. Paul MN. Worked up a sweat coming down the hill, and got cold on the lift. Beautiful country.

Thank you,

Nate

the "Cold Weather" version of Total Stations

Reminds me of an ALTA I was shooting with an S8 and the hoar frost and -13?øF shut it down...like no response ezcept a few blinking lights.

?ÿ

And yeah, them upper Midwestern folks are cold strong(I'm born Iowan) as represented by a group of bikers that I saw bout 1991 rolling as it snowed lightly at -20?øF on their Harleys.?ÿ That's a special kinda tough

@jitterboogie

Many years ago I had been on a date with a gal who lived about 45 miles from my house.?ÿ I left her town about 2:00 a.m., same time as the bars close.?ÿ At the edge of town was a dingy honkytonk that sane people did not frequent.?ÿ A fellow on a big motorcycle without a helmet and without a heavy coat pulled out of that parking lot directly in front of me.?ÿ It was about 5F at the time.?ÿ Six miles ahead was a four-way stop.?ÿ He drove wherever he wanted as there was no traffic coming towards us and I was the only one behind him.?ÿ There was a car at the four-way that made him come to a stop.?ÿ He sort of put one foot down in his frozen stupor.?ÿ I watched the bike go flat on its side and he went splat on the asphalt.?ÿ I went around him and headed home.?ÿ The guy in the other car hopped out to check on him.?ÿ He had no idea what he was about to deal with.
