Good looking green total stations on the side tracks of the 2012 Olympics. It would be interesting to hear from the survey engineers at that work site.
It looked like they were using a Leica reflectorless to measure the shot put event I accidentally watched

I see some at golf events also. I've thought about volunteering at "The Greenbrier Classic" in Lewisburg, WV to run an instrument, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Leica has a long history with surveying at the Olympics. Leica has a special group of applications for track and field measurements for all of there geomatics systems. I have actually talked to a few people who have used these applications with Leica total stations at Olympic trails also
The 1992 Olympic track and field trials were a few blocks away from my house when I lived in New Orleans. I managed to get some good seats in the athletes and parent section in the stands.
Yes, Leica TS were used to mmeasure the long jump at the time. They were using a mini prism. I watched the long jump the other night and it seemed that they were using some kind of scanner now.
I got to see Michael Johnson with his gold shoes win the 200 m . I could not believe with my own eyes how fast that he ran out if the curve. Also got to see Evelyn Ashford also, who was one of the most amazing athletes in track and field.
