Those are wall clouds, the type that spawn tornadoes.

The wall is formed by upper level winds from the opposite direction as the cloud travel direction.

They are beautiful but I don't think I'd ever want to be close to one!! :-O

We don't see that kind of cloud here in the Pacific Northwest. Tucson had beautiful monsoon clouds/storms but those clouds you guys get are even bigger! Do you ever worry about tornadoes or have you seen one?

Those are some cool pictures.

Last time I saw a cloud like that the mother ship came out it. Don't remember much else.

Been up close and personal with a couple. I grew up in "Tornado Alley". And still live there.

They must not scare you too much then eh?? If you still live there. 🙂 Those things scare me more than hurricanes or earthquakes! :-O

All in what you are used to. Tornadoes are very localized though intense destruction. They may take out an area a hundred yards wide and a half a mile long; only rarely are they larger. If you have warning, a shelter, and insurance you will recover from being in that relatively small area. And I've only seen a few of them in my life. Perhaps once a year have been within 20 miles of one that did significant but not major damage.

Hurricanes and earthquakes are spread over such a large area you can't duck them, and you don't get earthquake warnings.

Thanks for the pic, Rankin... That's my hometown! Born and raised. Left a few days after H.S. graduation and have only been back on occasional family visits since. Some pretty amazing weather in that country. Definitely far from "tornado alley," but they do have their share of weather events. One thing for certain, you can see the weather coming for miles!

Good point. I guess being born and raised in So Cal I got use to quakes. I don't like them but it was all par for the course of living down there. Wendell on the other hand LOVES earthquakes!! He's weird!!! 😛

Been through those too. Slept through Alicia(Category 3) in 1982. Wife was pissed!
BTW one of the byproducts of hurricanes is tornadoes. Usually lots of them.

Have also seen Prairie Fire, flash floods, general floods, blizzards, Ice storms, etc.. Missed Forest Fires, so far.
