I grew up in the Capital City of Kentucky and went to College in Lexington (not UK) and spent the first 23 years of my life in the Bluegrass State. For someone who does not live in KY it is hard to explain the love for the Cats - actually it's more like an obsession. Then I moved to St. Louis.
The people here are beyond obsessed about the Cardinals. Some folks actually think that they are a part of the team and get emotionally distraught about a lose. Just like Kentucky folks not only hope, but expect the Cats to go to the Final Four every year, Cardinals fans expect the World Series every year. In fact I think playoff tickets are printed on opening day.
So what's my point? The Kansas City Royals and The St. Louis Cardinals could possibly meet in the World Series this year and not one mention of the Royals and their success on StL TV or radio, which reminds me of the Louisville Cardinals back in Kentucky - not one outside of Louisville cares or acknowledges that they won the National Championship a few years back.
For the Royals fans out there, Congratulations! The team deserves a big Mizzoura shout out!
I am pulling for the '85 rematch. 🙂
The Money Gods in MLB Will Not Allow That To Happen
It's all about money. Plain and simple. The more money involved, the better the MLB gods like it. An East Coast versus West Coast matchup is about the best they can get. The airlines are super busy. The hotels can triple their rates. The local bars, strip joints, etc. reap tremendous returns. The TV advertisers are hitting hometowns/areas with huge populations.
The I-70 Series in 1985 between the Royals and Cardinals did not produce the same economic return as every Series involving two teams from far larger markets. Heck, you can drive from St. Louis to KC in under four hours. I can be in St. Louis with only three more hours of travel than going to KC. Nearly all Missouri fans of each team are within a three hour drive. Besides, everyone knows Midwesterners are a bunch of tight wads
I wouldn't mind seeing the Royals and Giants in the series. Then MLB would have to rethink this wildcard set-up where teams who did not win the division and have a 5 or 6th final standing in the league get to go to the WS. Sort of socialistic. 😐
Sentimentally, I like to se the O's vs Giants. I have friend who was the clubhouse boy when he was young for the O's and another friend is a lifelong Giant fan.
I have no choice. I like the way that the Royals are playing. Speed, hitting, defense up the middle etc plus the extra inning wins. They play with their heads up.
Giants are a seasoned team and have a lot of post season experience.
O's were no doubt the best team in baseball this year so they are very deserving.
No comment on the Cards except they do have very nice Unis.
> O's were no doubt the best team in baseball this year so they are very deserving.
I'd prefer KC, the O's in the series would cut into my staff's productivity.
Thank God the Nat's have some of that DC hockey DNA that makes them the best team in the regular season and a bunch of choking dogs in the playoffs.
Try being a Cub fan. I'm in an area where it seems like there are more Card fans then Cub fans, although I bet if the Cubs get good that might change. I'll just say every time the Cards win a playoff game, I throw up in my mouth a little bit.
BTW the Cubs aren't going to get good anytime soon, they have had over a 100 years to prove otherwise.
Try being a Tigers fan. Talk about under achievers.. So it's Go Royals for me.. Besides, SWMBO is from KC
Saint Louis is fickle with every sport besides baseball. All of the 'other' sports are pretty much 'what have you done for me lately'. The difference in baseball is simple.
I had good seats from Lou Brock to Ozzy Smith. Meeting those guys (and a LOT more) wasn't just cool, it was common. The players took part in the community. They did it when the cameras weren't there. It wasn't a stunt to get back in good graces after a dog fight conviction either.
I have lived in numerous States and overseas. You see sports figures taking part in the community all the time. Saint Louis definitely takes it to another level. Having a team that hovers near the top much of the time doesn't hurt...
** PERKS! ** My kinda subject!!!! ??? (Pics!)

NOW WE'RE TALKIN'!!! 😀
I was hoping someone would start a topic on my boys!!
Not that *I* am obsessed or anything...  B-)
I, too, am wanting a rematch of 1985! But first, we gotta win this rematch of 2012 with the Giants. So far, the boys aren't up to par. :-/
The Royals on the other hand, look stellar! They've been a joy to watch this year and I think they're going to be in the World Series no matter what happens. :music:
And yes, I will be running my annual World Series contest. 😀 Stay tuned!! 🙂
GO CARDINALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may like this article, then... 😀
Go Cards!
> Nice to see your team in there. SF gets way too much media love as is, so STL should dust off and come back swinging tonight.
> In the rods of that guy that used to own a chain of chicken roasters (I heard he used to sing a bit too) on the subject of Cards:
> "You got to know when hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk batters, know when to kick Giant's bums"- or something like that...
They won tonight but they sure are giving me angina! :-O
Hence their nickname "Cardiac Cardinals"... B-)
Go Cards!
:good: :good:
Go Cards!
> :good: :good:
Games on at 1:07 Pacific time today. (Monday)
GET EM' CARDS!!
When the end of the baseball season rolls around, as a long time Pittsburgh Pirates fan, I only want to see 3 teams NOT anywhere near the playoffs... The Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Yankees.
I always like to take a look at this Twitter Feed of "The Best Fans In Baseball" full of how classy the Cards fans really are. *rolls eyes*
