Lt Higgins Rides Again!

Lt. Clay Higgins, what a character, I love it. Kinda like Gunny R. Lee Ermie...you can't really ever tell if he's puttin' on the dog...or he may really act like that all the time. Whichever, it's good to know there's someone taking the job seriously. I wish we had someone like that here in Okie-Homie on the local news.

Years ago I was working with a firm that was plowing buried telcom cable in Louisiana. We were having trouble with the equipment and traffic on old highway 1 south of Shreveport in Red River Parish. Two lanes of traffic sitting on top of a levee and there wasn't much room for anything else. State Trooper Scotty Fletcher was there to make sure everybody did right. Lt. Higgins reminds me of him in his mannerisms and attitude.

Stelly's is a well known and highly regarded spot to those of us who travel the Louisiana byways.

Yes my highlight of the week is watching his weekly crime stoppers (Wednesdays). He is a character and doesn't hold back. But unfortunately his parish does have high crime rate.

They tried giving him a script to follow, but he just didn't "feel" it. So now what you see is usually one take and unrehearsed.

Yes Stelly's is a required stop when working up that way.

It also answered very well my question as to whether Lt. Higgins is "puttin' on the dog" or not when he films each Wednesday's Crimestoppers.

I just got an email from Lt. Higgins containing a transcript of his speech.

I should clarify that the main body of this speech came to me in my sleep after a couple of weeks pondering, praying and worrying about it. I had never presented an address of that nature and I was searching my heart for the right words. I did not consider myself worthy. I woke from a dead sleep one morning very early and I had this speech in my head. So I recorded it on my phone and later transcribed it. I cleaned it up a little and tweaked it but basically the speech I presented was the same one that had been imprinted in my head.
I'm just saying... I was a messenger.

Honestly, I wish people with that type of character would be elevated to high positions of leadership.

Me too. But sadly what I've seen in U.S. politics is usually a person wise enough with good character is generally smart enough to avoid the political scene. An honest man with good character would probably get crucified in today's politics. I think Gen. Colin Powell was a good example of what I'm talking about. A wise, honest and dedicated American....with absolutely NO desire to run for political office.

Politics aside, I think we need the opportunity to listen to leaders. They need to be in a position where they can be heard.

I don't know why as a society, we do not place a higher value on that.
