And the 2nd amendment doesn't say "guns'. It says "arms". Does that mean I can own an M2 Bradley or a FGM-148 Javelin?

My use of it was a friendly jab at Merlin's [inadvertent] use of it. I think you're right, he meant to use "interpret".
Whatever. It really is fairly simple to me.
You are confronted by an armed man clearly high on drugs. Perhaps he only wants your wallet, perhaps he wants something much more evil. You really have no way of knowing. Can you tell me what the police are going to do for you in this instance?
They will do one of 2 things (15 to 20 minutes after it is all over)
A.) Take a police report.
B.) Take a police report, then call an ambulance to come pick you up.
If you put yourself into that situation it becomes very clear that you must either protect yourself (and family) or be at the mercy of the armed man. I for one would not like to flip that quarter. My life, my choice. It's a basic right.
Should I be able to use a nuclear war head, or just grandpa's old musket rifle? I do believe the founders wanted Americans to be able to defend themselves against a government similiar to what they had just escaped from.
I also believe the founders would have been very clear in that respect if they could have only known how far our government would go to control every aspect of our lives. JRL
