I have possession of a friends Sharp PC-1600 (not working, worn buttons) with a ce-1600p (cassette interface), ce-1600f (disk drive), (the latter parts should work) power cord, and partial role of paper, and carrying case.

It used to be used as a survey calculator, hence the wear. Somewhere at my friends' house should be a surveying program which he hasn't found yet.

Does anybody have ideas about how much would be a good guess as to how much these items might be worth?

Thanks for any input
John

Probably ....

less than the cost of packaging and shipping.

If you want another opinion, check "completed listings" on eBay.

I threw about 5 of those rigs away about 2 years ago if that helps. If you have a college with a surveying department nearby, you might donate it to them as a historical piece.

Over night, on another forum, I received an offer (over $300) on the package. Just have to find the right place to ask I guess. Too bad some of these were just thrown out.

I'd take that money and run! Especially for something that doesn't work.

Which is precisely what I intend to do. I thought I'd post the info in case people still had these around (working or not)..... after all, they are obviously worth money on the right market still. (Do I hear a commission coming my way for helping people sell these things? After all, the site I inquired on was NOT our "friendly" EBay! I have so far kept that info to myself.)

Addition: this also applies to all older computers... IBMs, clones, Apples, DEC, etc, etc.... So, if people happen to have some of those in storage somewhere, let's talk...

From what I remember, those were impressive machines, especially for their time. There are people who still consider them impressive....

When (if) you are ready to sell, let me know..... Perhaps I could find a nice home for it and get you some money.

Thanks John. I will keep that in mind. I see they only go for a couple hundred on ebay, and it is worth more than that just for nostalgia to me.

On Ebay, the sharp pc-1600 goes for $30 and up. On a completely different forum, I got $300 with the printer and floppy reader (which is what the guy was actually interested in since the computer itself doesn't work).....I did not search for the printer and disk drive on Ebay specifically, but did not accidentally run across those items.

In other words, Ebay is not necessarily the best of indicators as to how much something is worth to others. There are specific forums suited to many specific items.
