Science and Elizabeth Ann the black footed ferret

I had a terrifying dream last night.?ÿ Due to, I'm sure, what I read right before hitting the sack.?ÿ I read an article about a little black footed ferret named Elizabeth Ann that was successfully cloned with DNA from another ferret that had died back in the '80s.?ÿ Apparently scientists were able to successfully retrieve frozen DNA and replicate the donor.?ÿ Elizabeth Ann is planned to be released into the wild for breeding in an effort to refresh the specie's gene pool.

Yea!?ÿ Extinction (0)- Black Footed Ferrets (1). So yes, I'm all about continuing the biodiversity of the planet.?ÿ Genetic technology has come a long ways for sure.?ÿ I read the article and then went to bed....?ÿ

In my dream scientists had discovered a frozen neanderthal in the thawing permafrost of Siberia.?ÿ With the same technology used on the ferret they were able to clone a neanderthal child.?ÿ This was done in order to "study" the neanderthal's superior immune system.?ÿ And with all eyes being focused on recent pandemic viral spread the world embraced the neanderthal child with open arms. Of course the experiment actually included several subjects to ensure success.?ÿ Now the world has a small population of young neanderthals.

So the psychologists determined the children should be raised together for their emotional well-being.?ÿ And youngsters being youngsters...well, eventually there were in utero neanderthal births.?ÿ Soon there was a budding young community coddled and fed by the scientific community.

The the human rights activists became involved.?ÿ Were these people not people??ÿ The controversy raged.?ÿ One young neanderthal married a homo sapien and made the cover of People magazine.?ÿ Another aspired to be a rap artist.?ÿ Despite obvious tone-deafness the album sales were through the roof.?ÿ As time passed there were even neanderthals that were successful in their run for the House of Representatives.?ÿ A senate seat was probably not far off...

As time passed more pandemics and environmental calamities took their toll.?ÿ The average life-span of a homo sapien, complete with couch, TV and type 2 diabetes brought on by poor diet and obesity continued to drop.?ÿ The neanderthals flourished with their superior immune system and the homo sapiens numbers declined...

Man, that was one scary dream.?ÿ

Thankfully I awoke before we had engineered our own demise. ;)?ÿ?ÿ
