That giant arc of rain that extends from the Panhandle of Florida, through Louisiana, Arkansas, Kansas and Minnesota and all the way to the middle of Hudson Bay is packing a lot of precipitation. We have had more rain today than we have had for a long, long time.
Putting out big bales of hay to the cattle tomorrow is going to be a slip-sliding event that I hope my tires can handle on the first try.
Love the mud man snowman 😂. I put hay out today because of the rain chance. Me and the youngest have been down with the crud. But I managed enough strength today to get all the hay out. Rained a little on and off. Good luck slipping and sliding.
I usually every year no matter how careful I think i am is end up face down or on mu back. Usually trying to get on or off the tractor or cutting strings or net-wrap. Always one of the girls are watching. I think it makes them very happy to see me like that.
We have had 175” of snow and not a flake has melted. El Ñino from HE double hockey sticks.
Shhhhhhh. Don’t tell my kids that. They absolutely love snow. I do too but i don’t like shoveling it or having to feed cows in it. Maybe one day i will get a tractor with a cab. But for now its all open so cold rainy or snowy days its me bundled up . Lol.
Thats a lot of snow. My back hurts thinking about that.
Fed cows this afternoon. 34 F with mud everywhere. Just lowered the bale forks until enough friction pulled the bale off. They will have to eat around the plastic wrap for a change. Major circles from the four-wheel drive truck attempting to make a U-turn at high speed out in the pastures.
Feeding the 50 lb. bags of feed was the exciting part. I was slipping and sliding and so were all the quadrupeds that outweigh me by factors from two to four and more.
Oh man on the truck’s making high speed u-turns. Couple years ago had a group decide to do that with trucks and atv’s in one of my best smoothest hayfields. Let’s just say that first cutting was not fun. I finally got it smoothed back out but I was not a happy camper.
The feed bags in mud i can relate. I got a little lucky last winter on that i fell into the feed trough luckily as they all gathered around and i lost my footing. Something funny about laying in a feed trough and looking up to see all the eyeballs looking at you. And as you know sometimes they come up. Into the trough itself as they crowd around. Stay safe. Merry Christmas. I don’t have plastic wrap bales. Yet. Net wrapped and string. Don’t really know which one i like the best as both are a mess to keep cleaned up. I need hay bad this year. I somehow made a huge mathematical error and now i will be short. Hopefully getting some this week. A guy has. I will be feeding a lot of small squares for sure. Thank goodness I have a few weeks worth of those here just have to haul them to the farm. I usually only feed feed about once a week but that to has changed from my mistake of counting. So more days a week now. Which gets into my bottom line. I guess thats how i will learn. Lol. Being a greenhorn can be frustrating at times.
So I am out playing in mud today. Set out a few extra bales because I might be heading out if town. Well of course inlaws on way and I am in a little bit of a hurry to get back to the house. Well of course one bale was baled by someone who had enough that day. So i get to spend an hour unwinding a whole bale as they didn’t seem to pay attention and it most definitely had to be at minimum one whole role of twine. Good grief. Anyone need a thousand foot of gently used orange twine. Of course leather 4 legged bovines are all up in my grill while i try and get this mess un done and pitch fork the good stuff into hay wagon.
Precipitation in Portland will reach 9 inches for the month of December. Average is more like 6. I have no cows to feed, but plenty of mud.
I will share. Come feed anytime you want. Yes tis the muddy season for sure. Now it’s time to clean up and begin to prepare myself mentally for more food and relaxation.
