These robots have been around for a while. Would make a good survey gear-pack-mule.

Fascinating...but spooky. If I was in the back country with something like that as a pack "animal" I'd probably talk to it like you would a dog or mule. Spooky.
Now I've grown fond of all sorts of mechanical and electronic devices...but I've had one that could follow me around like a puppy....
