This is the kind of stuff that makes me boil. We had a nice asphalt surface between my small town of Milford and Interstate 80. Today, someone at the Nebraska Department of Roads decided it was time to cut safety rumble bars down the centerline. We have had over a week of temperatures reaching near or above 100°. Today was 98°.
Whoever was in charge let this continue for three miles. I made a pdf of these photos and sent it to the top three guys at the roads department and my state senator. I am betting they will now bring in a small milling machine and lay new asphalt and striping. Every one of those broken pieces is going to come loose and create holes. Guess who gets to pay for this genius decision?
Huh. I wonder what our road crews are doing in Nebraska?
I'd like to beat the guy that thought of putting those in the road to begin with. Why they want to tear up perfectly good asphalt is beyond me. :-@
These are also tough on section corners that get ground out.
My question is should we shoot the yellow strip, or the middle of the rumble strip, for C/L? (Forget the R/W markers!)

Nebraska has long stretches of open road (I'm guessing), highway hypnosis (probably) causes a lot of head on collisions.
I can see the usefulness of centerline rumble strips, and I can think of a couple of roads around here that could use them.
