Our 2 new (>1 year old) Topcon FC-5000 tablet data collectors are heading ?ÿinto the trash can over this update. ?ÿBeware window operating systems on your field equipment going forward, two of our field crews are nearly shut down (with no solution on the horizon). ?ÿOne has an older DC to fall back on and one is limping along. ?ÿThanks for posting this, it??s a big problem for some
Because of that "update" (a downgrade IMNSHO) we have to use jump drives to transfer data from our TSC3's to the PC's. And, the Windows OS on the TSC3's makes that a pain in the neck.
@Rick Taylor?ÿ Download Trimble Installation Manager and run the office updates.?ÿ Once that is done, grab your TSC3.?ÿ Tap the windows start button in the upper left hand corner of the keypad.?ÿ Go to Settings --->Connections --->USB to PC and uncheck the "enable advanced functionality" button.?ÿ That should make it where you can connect to?ÿ your computer again.?ÿ You may or may not have to open up Windows Mobile Device Center manually each time you connect your TSC3.
Here is the happy spin on 'Creators Update' (Create a lot of work for others Update):
We have basically gotten to speak with every single customer that we have ever sold a Windows Mobile Device to (so like 15 years worth of sales) over WMDC not surviving after the 'Creators Edition' update.?ÿ
95% of the time we can get it going again with [ these 5 simple steps ] which I detailed in this [ Great YouTube Video ]. 5% of the time is is ugly, but I think that Juniper Systems (link in 5 simple step FAQ) is getting a somewhat automated work around in place.
Other than that, I have to wonder who is in charge at Microsoft? What a mess.
@ FairleyWell: I'll try that. We had WMDC working in Win10 before the "Create a lot of work for others Update" (thanks for that one, Mark!), but not since.
So the day before our office computer that is used mainly for uploading/downloading gets the Win 10 1709 update.?ÿ Yesterday I go to hook up my TSC3 and there was no ding or dong when connecting/un-connecting.?ÿ ?ÿOH GREAT!?ÿ ?ÿOf course I'm trying to upload data and then get out to survey.?ÿ ?ÿSo before I see this blog and @mark-silver post, I did the next big thing.?ÿ ?ÿ
I went to START > SETTINGS > UPDATE & SECURITY > RECOVERY and had an option to ROLLBACK to previous version.?ÿ ?ÿDid it and all is well.?ÿ ?ÿMy understanding is you only have like 10 days before that option is not available unless you have the installation disks.?ÿ ?ÿYou might be able to go to control panel and uninstall updates too.?ÿ ?ÿ
Here is a MS help on this:?ÿ https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12373/windows-update-faq
Good luck and pray MS figures this out.
I will fight off Win10 for as long as I possibly can.?ÿ Just like I have an old XP box around just in case, I have 2 Win7 machines, one internet, one not.?ÿ The productions machine will stay Win 7 until it dies, and Win 10 will only ever darken my doorstep for internet use.?ÿ I really haven't played with Win10 yet, don't have any reason or ambition to.?ÿ The thing that did it for me was the auto updates, I figure if a machine is working, no reason to upgrade it.
gets the Win 10 1709 update. Yesterday I go to hook up my TSC3 and there was no ding or dong when connecting/un-connecting.
There was a problem with a Win10 update and Windows Mobile Device Center before that required a minor, if somewhat techie, fix.?ÿ I'm thinking this is a similar situation.?ÿ There's a thread here somewhere that addresses the prior incident.
