Hint 2

The occupant was not a native of California. He was a US citizen of French Canadian descent.

Jack Kerouac?

I'll have to double check Kerouac's birthdate, but it ought to be around 1920.

Kent Got it

In 2008 we went down to Los altos to see maureen's family. Went to "the City" for a couple days and it turns out this house was just up the street from where we stayed. I'm also a big Twain fan, but I think all of his old hangouts were shook down, dynamited or razed.

You guys (and gal) are good!!!

I didn't see that Liz was also honing in on the answer.

Quick sleuthing for a fairly obscure historical location.

Another Kerouac house

Here's a link to another Jack Kerouac house, one where he actually wrote "On the Road" and "Dharma Bums". This one's in Florida.

Missed the date of construction

> Good job Kent....but then what else would be expected from you.

Thanks, but I see I missed the construction date of the house. All that remodeling threw me off. One thing that would be interesting would be to post photos of different sorts of houses and other buildings whose dates of construction are known to see who can guess when they were built.
