And a lot smaller than previously thought.
That looks like good Jackalope and Western Diamondback country. Now I see why you use horses so much.

I caught some awesome video of two snakes locked in, well -battle- yesterday. They were just prairie racers. I have not been able to get the video to load anyplace yet, so that's why it hasn't been shared. The country is full of snakes, wild hogs, deer, turkey, skunks, raccoons, rabbits, and quail. And in those trees, all of the above have the ability to cause serious harm if they blast out from your feet when you aren't looking, and you stumble on a loose rock. You sound silly telling about a gash caused by a little ole bird, but when you were stepping on that bird and your foot moved on it's own, so your other foot went to get away.....

Anyone who would think that is silly has never had a bevy of quail launch out from under your feet, or heard a rattle and not be able to tell the direction has led a charmed life.

As a dues paying member of the Flat Earth Society I do solemnly aver that photo to be the product of Photoshop.
Quail hunting was always a challenge due to the need to get over the startle reflex before firing the gun.
or to aim the gun as you are in mid startle, since you are reflexively squeezing the trigger anyways....
I once enjoyed bird hunting and suddenly it always was that there was someone between me and the birds because it has become so popular the hunting areas were so crowded.
Not many dove and quail around here as there was back in the 60s, gotta go out West Texas way for that.
The last greenhead I shot became the instant trophy of an alligator.
Being accustom in my youth to walking out the back door and head out with gun and pack for a weekend hunt and then having to deal with the sudden arrival of strangers and posted signs on every fence where there used to be no fences, well hat took most of the rewards out of the hunt......
Mr Harris, you are correct. Everywhere is leased now, many are as high as $500 a gun a day, for quail! That's an awful high dollar piece of meat! I have both dove and quail, but find they are more trouble to clean than it is to go to the store and buy chicken. I dislike hunting season, because even if I check with the landowner that his hunters are aware I am surveying on the property, the neighboring hunters that do not realize how far a bullet can travel is becoming a problem, as are poachers. (and target shooters who don't check their backstop).
