Mother nature can get your attention sometimes...

I've seen some crazy hail storms in Nebraska; hailstones as big as baseballs; but nothing as big as a grapefruit! Do you know what kind of an updraft it takes to cause that?

My boss was a pilot; he said that those big anvil top clouds had these clear looking holes in them; this is where all those crazy hailstones are being thrown around. He called them sucker holes.....:snarky: B-)

IKR?

The hail sale was a good place to buy cheap used cars. I heard that it was more cost effective to send the new cars to the body shop. :excruciating:

And this was before: Show me the CarFax o.O

Not that I wish violent storms on anybody...but I'm just thankful the steering winds have taken those rascals out of Oklahoma.

Take care and keep your vehicles under a carport or in the garage. 😉

That is the very kind of event that newcomers to the Plains encountered which lead them to report to their friends and family back home about bizarre happenings that the folks back home knew had to be lies, tall tales and fantasy.

The following link is for a book I read many years ago which features numerous examples of tall tales created as a result of bizarre happenings. The tales weren't true but what encouraged their creators to do so were the wild weather conditions that they encountered in their new homeland. The example mentioned in the book title tells of a settler shingling his new home on the prairie while a super-dense fog rolled in. When he had finally nailed down the last shingle he discovered that for some time he had not been on his home at all but, instead, had been nailing into nothing but thick fog.

That's a once a in a life time event to see. I watched a hailstorm with grapefruit-size hail in Ft. Collins, Co back in 1979. Still remember it.
