I'm gonna try to channel my best Looney Tunes when I say, "I'm so ashamed".?ÿ
I may have raised a moron for a daughter. She just spent $1000 for a Samsung Note 9.
Where did I go wrong? A cell phone for a thousand dollars! Holy crap that is a lot of money for a phone. Am I missing something?
I feel like the little Looney Tunes kitten who was ashamed that his daddy Sylvester couldn't catch a mouse.
My Iphone 4s gave up the ghost Wednesday. I have to go shopping tomorrow. I sure hope there is something decent out there for well under a grand!
I liked my iPhone 4 and my daughter convinced me to switch to Android years ago and I got a Samsung S6. It took me a while to learn it and even longer to "like" it. Apple is just like a MAC & and does everything well & makes everything simple and easy whereas the Samsung is like the PC.
Now that I am used to Samsung I will likely stay but I will not spend a $1k. I have a lot of life in my S6.
I think you have done well, she obviously knows how to keep abreast of changing technology. My Daughter (36) has an "emergency credit card" under my name that she uses regularly for emergencies such as the nail/hair salon, vet bills, and most importantly ALWAYS the newest iPhone. Those are "emergency"needs according to her.?ÿ
As far as I'm concerned the only good thing about apple is its stock. I am a dedicated Android user.?ÿ ??ÿ
My wife has had several Samsung phones over the years, and I had never had a smart phone or Apple anything until about a month ago.?ÿ AT&T was running a deal offering an iPhone SE for $50 for new customers and $100 for existing customers.?ÿ My wife was new and I was existing, so we both walked out of there with brand new iPhones for 150 bucks.?ÿ We have prepaid plans totaling 55 bucks a month for us both, considering that we're usually in range of wifi and don't need much data.?ÿ The deals are out there, and the savings are real, as long as you don't mind having a phone that is merely phenomenal instead of the latest!
If someone wanted a larger screen, the iPhone 6S was also available for about 200 bucks.
My mantra with technology is "leading edge, not bleeding edge."
I have the S9+. List was 850. I expect the next phone will run a grand. If all it did was make calls that would be ridiculous.
I have every photo I've taken since 2014 on it. The newer ones are awesome with a waterproof 12 mp dual lense camera. It backs up to the cloud nightly. I track 3 email and a dozen other types of accounts any time I want. Unlimited internet that is faster and more stable than my laptop. In the field it can be the hotspot for several devices at once without a hitch. It has replaced my watch, gps, radio and weather station. Occasionally I make a call or two. It fits in my pocket.
I do live by several rules when it comes to tech. Never by version one of anything. Never pay full price. It's OK to be the second one at the office with a cool toy. Actually being cool is better than being first...

We always used to say at school (and now I've got my 9 year old friend repeating it): "First the worst, second the best, third the hairy princess".
Although having said that, at university, circa 1989, one of the "adult students" rocked up to tutorial with a small black briefcase that housed in its entirety a mobile phone c/w radio, the handset itself being the size (and angular shape) of a large banana. Although he didn't make or receive a call, he was the man. Legend has (had) it that for a time those original sets (and the vehicle equivalent installs) were the cats later on because the radios were powerful 2W gizzmos to cope with the long distance between cell towers.
I use the samsung active phones, I had an I-phone which was a hunk of junk compared to the active. Some features such as setting up email was better with the I-phone but the samsung is way more rugged. Holds up to abuse and keeps going. I don't know if there is an active version of the S9, but it will probably be my next phone.

Please tell me what an active phone is.
I currently have an Samsung S 7. Would like an S 9 but will wait until I can find one at a decent price. I don't doubt the price will drop significantly in the next 6-8 months. My plan is with T-Mobile for the last 8 years at $30.00 a month, only 100 phone calls but unlimited data so you can tether it as a wifi hotspot which is great for travel to connect your laptop. As an added bonus when it's tethered to SWMBO's laptop while traveling she doesn't act as a co-pilot to me constantly.?ÿ?ÿ?ÿ ??ÿ
The active versions are the armoured versions. They don't need a case, are waterproof for short dunks, basically good for someone that treats a phone rough,,,,,,,like me.
Never owned or used an iPhone but I can tell you a new one is ~$1200. Someone bought one in my name and I got the bill. I'm in georgia. Purchase made in Minnesota?ÿ

If you are on a s6, drop on ebay, search for an s7 active (new) or (excellent).?ÿ You should be able to make a small step up for <$200.?ÿ ((Or an s8 active under $300)) I made the move from the old rugged Rugby Pro, to the s7 active, and it is great.?ÿ I will NEVER pay more than a couple hundred for a phone - but I just want it to work, not be on the bleeding edge of design.?ÿ Most guys I know have an iphone that is within a couple years old, and most also have shattered screens, and deal with them because they are so expensive to buy and fix.?ÿ My old rugby pro took 20+ drops to concrete over the 6 years I had it, and I was sad to see it go.?ÿ The s7 active has taken 2 so far, and still not 1 scratch.?ÿ I would however recommend the gorilla glass screen protector for it.?ÿ Not so much for the screen protection (which it is great for) but it evens out the little ridge surrounding the phone that bugged me, and makes the screen level and smooth with the edges.?ÿ?ÿ
For anyone who goes in the field, I can't imagine something besides the active line.?ÿ Of course I can't stand the huge boxes that people put on to protect their super slim phones either.
I recently cleaned out and backed up all the important stuff on my S5 and did a factory reset.
All the junk is gone and it is purring and faster than ever.
