Hi guys, I've been reading this forum for a while now and have decided to contribute more often.
I enjoy the variety of responses posted here, gets a young surveyor's brain going.

Anyway, thank y'all for posting. It's interesting to read the good, bad, and ugly.

Welcome to this forum.
I'm Nate. My pet peeves run the gammut from surveyors that cannot agree on which way is north, to those that do not see into the future, and know that surveying is a very moral issue, with answers that run from Poor, to mediocre and to excellent. And, it takes work to get excellence every time.

Surveyors without opinions, are useless.

Surveyors with wrong opinions, well, are sometimes worse than useless!

But, enough of my thoughts. Where did you come from, and how did you come to be involved with surveying?

Could you not find a better paying job with NASA, or fishing?

(OK, that last line is humor!)

Nate

Newbie...don't believe a word of what Nate said..

Nate is a top bloke with a different outlook on life from many.

He calls a spade a bleeding shovel.

You will quickly realise that his home schooled children are all top field assistants as they were trained from the day they could walk. On another board we had weekly updates as to what his young lad s doing. Having a senior moment recollecting the surveying alias that Nate gave his eldest son.

Enjoy the board and as a bit of advice watch out for Wendell's assistant moderator as she (Angel Lynn) could be a tad cranky as she is a Cardinal's fan laid up with bruised/ torn muscles [But you should see the fellow !]... BTW If you want to get in her good books buy Angel some CherryRipes.... I have to bring a box next trip to the states...

BTW Happy Easter to you Nate and family and to MS Surveyor, aka Newbie. Also to Wendell, Angel Lynn and all fellow posters.

That would be Big Help. Danged if I have any idea what his real name is supposed to be. Knowing Nate it is probably something like Aloysius or Beelzebub or Zachheus.

Thanks for the warm welcome Nate! I got into surveying 8 years ago when hired by a local surveyor. I cut A LOT of line, I'm sure you fellas have paid your dues too. I became interested in the math and evaluation of evidence involved, so went back to college.
AA in surveying from local junior college
BS in geographic information technology

Best: I enjoy large and rural boundary work, and there's plenty of swamps and woods I've yet to explore here in MS.

Worse: Hmm, I'll have to think about that.

I have a cousin who lives in Hattiesburg; my mom's side of the family is originally from around Brookhaven, but she grew up in Natchez & Woodville.

What Local Junior College ?

Jones County Junior College has a program geared towards surveying, it's referred to as Civil Engineering Technology. They have an approved curriculum through the state board where you take additional classes (trig, physics, etc) other than those required for the AA.
MS State does offer surveying at a 4 year level, but I choose Southern Miss to study GIS for my Bachelors. Don't worry guys, I'm a surveyor at heart.

Welcome, fellow Mississippian! There are a lot of real gems of people and information on this board.

Throw in your two cents worth every now and then. Somebody out there has been there and done that.
Their advice, comments and suggestions are good reads.

Added Jones Junior College To My List

I note they have 5 surveying coursers for 15 credits. Mississippi only requires 9 surveying credits with a BS. PA only requires 10 with a BS CE.

BTW, do not refer to it as an AA degree, AA is an Associate in Arts. You should have an AAS degree, Associate in Applied Science.
