There are people with PhDs that weren't yet born the last time I partied hard on New Year's Eve.?ÿ But that's OK.?ÿ We still enjoy ourselves and if I'm lucky I'll still be awake to welcome in the new year at midnight.
I read a striking statistic this evening:?ÿ Sixty percent of traffic fatalities in Oklahoma involve a driver under the influence.?ÿ That's almost as pathetic as being one of the top five states for high school dropouts and teen pregnancy.?ÿ I was approached at 7-11 the other day to sign a petition for a statewide Medical Crystal Meth Card.?ÿ What a great place to live...
I sure hope everyone that imbibes heavily this evening has planned out their trip home.?ÿ I have a number of friends that use to drink a lot more than they should.?ÿ One of them refers to New Year's Eve as Amateur Night.?ÿ It would be funny if it wasn't so true.?ÿ I truly pray we all avoid a messy car accident this evening due to alcohol.
Happy New Year y'all.?ÿ Time to take the ol' shoe box full of receipts to the accountant.?ÿ ;)?ÿ ?ÿ
We were supposed to go to my brother's house out in the country in the next county over, to play music with other friends and for supper.?ÿ It's sort of a tradition.?ÿ
We started on wet roads about 1:15 pm with mist on the windshield and a reported temperature of 29F, with a prediction of 8F overnight. Sounds like conditions for a white-knuckle return trip after dark, although we would probably be too early for most of the inebriated to be on the road.?ÿ My wife chickened out and we came back home. We think some of the others did make the trip.?ÿ We wish them well.?ÿ
We'll just look at the clock as we go to bed and say "It's midnight somewhere."
Plan to still be awake at midnight.?ÿ No party though.?ÿ Looking back through the decades I can remember more miserable New Year Eve's than really good ones.?ÿ Part of that goes back to the years the kids would spend some time with their mother over the holidays then come back for the first day of school in January.?ÿ
Paden mentioned teen pregnancy.?ÿ Two friends from high school both began their teaching careers at the same little school district about 75 miles from their hometown in 1974.?ÿ They summarized that district by saying, "You know you have done an exceptional job of parenting if you can get your daughter to high school graduation BEFORE she has her SECOND baby."
Hell, when yer my age every day is "New Years", and I still haven't learned to shut up..... ?????ÿ
Happy New year,
We're doing a bunch of fun food stuffs and a wine and sake all slowly imbibed and munched.
No road time on these nights, and there's a huge winter storm bearing down too so morning mimosas and hot tub.
?ÿ
I had a shingles vaccine shot yesterday and I feel like s__t. Not going to make it.
Better the shot than the real deal.?ÿ I got a shingles shot five or six years ago.?ÿ No more impact than the annual flu shot.
@jitterboogie Now for good luck this year you need to start the year with blackeyed peas, hog jowl and greens (preferably turnips or collards).?ÿ I actually am using some ham left over from Christmas instead of hog jowls.?ÿ Add some cornbread this old boy is just happy.
Andy
