The company I work got me a new work truck on Monday and I finally decided to get rid of my car so I bought me one yesterday.

They are talking about getting a camper shell for the work truck and I have never worked with one. Anyone on here using one have any suggestions or pics of the setup?

I have a work truck (F250) with a steel shell. I suggest: get one with the opening side windows and keep your tailgate (don't get the double doors). The tailgate is a handy work surface.

The organizer I have needs to be taken out and replaced. Our equipment hauling needs have changed since it was built.

We prefer hard lids. Much easier access to things, and you can see for reversing.

I have a tonneau on my personal truck which is much better for backing (it's amazing how many people will walk right behind a backing up large vehicle with no visibility out of the rear and they are oblivious to the danger).

The shell has the advantage of more volume. Cargo and equipment doesn't absolutely have to be below the gunwales of the pickup bed. But if you can design your setup so that everything is below the top of the cover then it is better and probably better fuel mileage too combined with a lighter cover.

I like the hard lid also with one of these from Weather Guard. It is so nice to slide open one drawer and be able to see everything. I but carpet in the bottom of the areas I keep my prisms. I built a wood box over the top of it for tripods and such. To dark outside to take a picture, maybe tomorrow.

I was looking at those today.

It will take something to get the boss to buy them, though.

I also found an aluminum version which is about half the weight.

Tough working over the tailgate. Neeed side windows for sure.
