Was on XP.
Tried going to 8, did not like it.
On 7 for a few months now and happy.

When Win XP 'dies', so does Microsoft Security Essentials

Yep, Microsoft Security Essentials will be gone. Too bad. I was hoping that MS would continue some such protection for the operating systems that came after XP. 🙁

Although the article was unclear, I didn't interpret it to mean that MSE is going away, only MSE updates for XP. My inference is that MSE will continue to be updated for more recent operating systems.

MSE

I see what you're saying, Jim. The article does read that way.

I could've sworn, though, that I saw an article (can't find it right now) recently that said MSE was toast not only for XP but also for all future MS operating systems, and that third-party anti-virus & malware protection would be recommended instead.

Maybe I need more coffee to boost my reading comprehension. 😉

MSE

This article sheds some light on the matter. It indicates that MSE has been falling in the malware-protection rankings, and quotes a Microsoft official suggesting that MSE is more of a baseline -- rather than comprehensive -- anti-malware product. The article concludes that savvy users who practice good online hygiene can get by with MSE, but that less knowledgeable or careless users should invest in third-party antivirus software.
