Animals seem to understand when someone is there to help.

Otherwise he is damn lucky not to get the loving bejesus whooped outta him!!

If that was MY backyard, Mr. Bullwinkle woulda been wrapped in white paper and in the freezer!!B-)

JD, I agree animals seem to understand. I don't know about a fine line but that Bullwinkle moment makes me think when you are dumb you got to be tough!

Most people would not be able to have done that, no matter how brave they were. Animals do sense intent of all creatures, but it is a two way street and few humans are experienced or sensitive enough to read the obvious signals that the moose is sending out, without that ability and patience the proper things get attempted at the wrong time. As far as eating that moose, not me, he is tired from fighting and is scared, be very poor eating.
