it has been a merry Christmas so far.?ÿ Rolled out of bed at 9:00 a.m. and haven't left the house yet.?ÿ The family event will be tomorrow roughly 100 miles from here.?ÿ Just chillin', as the young folk might say.

Merry Christmas from the Big Island!!!
We celebrated Mom's 95th birthday on Wednesday instead of calling it a Christmas gathering. Wife's daughter was here last night. Today is quiet.
What a coincidence!?ÿ I was on the Big Island about one hour ago.?ÿ Not THAT big island, though.?ÿ Didn't have to leave the county (but I did).?ÿ The original river channel still works.?ÿ What was a slough eventually was cut through by a major flood, connecting the slough to the main channel.?ÿ The original merging of the river with the slough is several miles further south.?ÿ The water running into the slough, which is a much shorter path, widened and deepened the slough such that it now carries probably 90 percent of the total flow.?ÿ The area between the river and the cut-off is known as Big Island far and wide.
Could you please throw a thalweg usage in there too please!?
It would make my Christmas that much better!

I'm glad to have become part of a community of licensed professionals that tolerate my berating and inquisitive nature and help me move forward by evocative didactic interesting dialogue.
Someday I will do the same for the people I'm interacting with after I make the commitment to climbing the same ladder to be qualified and relied upon like the rest of you licensed professionals do and give back to my community in a similar fashion....

White Christmas on Hawaii
Just for you.?ÿ My journey this afternoon was partly to get as close to the cut-off as I could in a location where we will be doing both a boundary and a topo for mining gravel.?ÿ No significant precipitation in over a month and the cut-off is still flowing too much water to find the true thalweg.?ÿ With gravel deposits on both sides the narrowness in certain places is adding too much velocity to the water for handy traversing, yet barely deep enough to introduce a motorboat.?ÿ Sort of makes you want to pull a MacGyver and shoot anchors into the high bank providing relatively safe cross-sections.
