His strange death will be the subject of Decoded on the History Channel Thursday night. Unfortunately for me it comes on at the same time as that over sexed doctor show on ABC that my wife watches.
LOL...Guess we all know what you will be watching tonight.
Thanks for the heads up Tommy.... I'll have to record it since our local chapter surveyors Christmas party is that night, too...
Well, tell me so I'll know.
Thanks for the heads up. I’ve read two different accounts of his death. One being that an ally of Aaron Burr followed Lewis on the Natchez Trace and murdered him, and the second being his mental instability finally led to his suicide.
Have a great week!
Woops. I should have said on Thursday night. My bad.
On our way to the Rendezvous in Chattanooga last September, Joyce and I stopped at Grinder’s Stand on the Natchez Trace where Lewis died. Really not much to see. A replica cabin was under renovation and the only other item of interest was the monument at Lewis’ grave. The other grave stones in the cemetery were more interesting, telling a story of hardship and perseverance on the early American frontier.
There is a multitude of scenarios surrounding the death of Meriwether Lewis. For example:
Meriwether Lewis' Mysterious Death
If you can stay awake that long, the show is rerun later. In my time zone (central), it’s on at 9:00 pm Thursday evening and again at 1:00 am Friday morning.
The spare bedroom with the computer has basic cable. Maybe I can talk her into watching it in there.
“At the end of his life he was a horrible drunk, terribly depressed, who could never even finish his [expedition] journals,”
Damn Surveyors.
