What is this thing? I've gotten several requests to join it and I recognize a few of the people they ask me to "connect" with. I think I might have already joined, but haven't really had time to think about it or follow up on it. The people that I recognize are cool but as far as I know, I've never heard of most of the people they think I should know.
It's a networking thing. I too, have had invitations to join by others. I have declined. I'm easy enough to find, and I don't trust these Third-Party "networking" solutions to a problem that I don't have.
I joined a while back, supposedly have linked up with some "business contacts" & friends, and have never once had a business contact as a result. It may work for some, but as far as I'm concerned it's a flop.
i concur, and do not participate - along with facebook, twitter and the other forms of ego driven self-aggrandizements.

Hmm,the people I've gotten requests from are relatively intelligent individuals (you know who you are) so I figured it must be a good idea for some reason. Actually, I feel like I'm sufficiently socially connected already but don't want to be a spoil-sport.
Doesn't seem nearly as busy as facebook. And really, it's not quite the same thing. Seems like it's supposed to be more "professional" but, as Ingram said, have never gotten a business deal out of it.
You get a profile page and then you can join various groups if you want.
The only time I look at it is when someone trys to connect with me.

If you are 'LinkedIn' with developers/contractors it will generate some work.
I guess you get out of it what you put into it. LinkedIn isn't a chatty kind of site. I've made a lot of friends and acquaintances over the year that I help out and who help me out when I need it. I've found a lot of people that I lost track of on LinkedIn. If your looking for new business, you'll probably need to do more than just join and expect the work to just show up. Alternatively, you could join a group of people that you'd like to have as clients and make contact with them to make them aware of the service that you have to offer. Just a thought.:-D
I look at is as a "professional/straightlaced" social media tool (like Facebook). I am on there (whoopee), and a few of my facebook friends are, as well as some people from here. I have not generated 1 job from LinkedIn. I have however generated at least 3 jobs from Facebook and helped a few other people out (sent them in the right direction) on there.
I did have a request from a member of the VAS ask me for a comment or reference or statement (whatever they call it) for his LinkedIn page because he was looking for a job. I did, but I have no idea if it has helped.
That's just my $0.02/0.04' thoughts on it.

A friend & business associate invited my to join 6 months ago or so. I joined and never heard another word about it.
Like a lot of internet apps, probably a passing fad.
Anybody on Myspace still?

I am still on there just because it is better for music. But I do not actively use it. Maybe once every 10 days do I even look at it. Seriously considering cancelling it.

I believe I never used myspace because it was too slow with my dialup.
For some reason, Facebook is pretty fast on my dial-up.
