Hello,
I just read an article about LightSquared and how they will be provided their 4G to Sprint. I thought it would be fun to announce a boycott on Sprint, but I wanted to make sure that Sprint it the only corporation that would enjoy the 4G from LightSquared. Anyone know who will be using LightSquared?

I put this under the category Contests, we could make a Boycott Contest out of it...
Thanks,
Thadd

I think that since sprint is my provider I'll pass on the boycott, can't beat unlimited data stream!

Sprint gave Lightsquared until January 30 to gain approval of the plan, which isn't likely to happen. Carl Icahn and a couple other high-rollers just bought $300 million of Lightsquared debt, figuring that the Lightsquared plan will fall apart and they'll be able to gain control of its spectrum for a song.

In other words, talk of a boycott is way premature.

Fair enough, I quit Sprint years ago so I have no concern unless Verizon starts sniffing at the technology. I did go to the LightSquared website and they do have a partners list. I would consider boycotting all except for Leap, my daughter loves those Leap toys... but I would still boycott (buy only used ones) if it comes to that.

It's never too early to put financial pressure on the LightSquared Partners. Greater pressure would come from these partners than from the surveying community.

The only advantage I know that 4G will provide is video phone capabilities.

Downloads would be faster. I just don't use my phone that much for it to be worth spending extra for those services.

Verizon has the best coverage in my parts.

When my out of town clients are with me in the field, they are always using my phone to connect to anyone if they are without Verizon.

AT&T is putting up more towers around here to catch up.

My girlfriend & her daughter just got a 4G Droid Atrix, via AT&T. They video phone all the time and it is really cool with the new grand kid living some 400 miles away. Not as good as Skype or even the Jetson's, but still has a valuable use for such things.

I don't know where the entire LS'd debacle fits into it, but she is well aware that if it get's too good, us surveyors (me) will not like it. She doesn't care and simply says "...go buy some more equipment...". That will likely be a continued public sentiment, as much as that irks us.

Don't know whether to find another girlfriend or open up a cell phone store. Maybe both..hmmmmm
