Angel

That is believable, just as the fox was man's probable first domestic pet.

I will share a rat story. My wife and I were walking after dark between our motel and Ben Thanh Market in Saigon. We were at the end of the city walking park at the tourist bus lot and crossed paths with a critter in the shadows aside the concrete wall across the street from the entrance to the market. We leap atop the wall and the critter moved into the light and my wife said "mouse". Because of its size my first words were, "that's a rat". A moment later after taking in what I was seeing, in appearance it did look more like a giant mouse. It was not Ben size, but it was by far larger than any barn rat I'd ever seen and it actually looked like a long haired mouse that was more than several pounds worth of rodent and the size of a cat or small dog.

Aww...maybe you got to encounter a Gambian Rat??!! Very abundant in that part of the world. Gambians are SMART. They are used to sniff out old land mines. If not a Gambian then possibly a Norway. Now you have me curious! 🙂

Dang...I'd love to go to Vietnam. Wendell and I would have a ball eating all the yummy food, minus the weird things. Lychee drinks abound!!! 😀

The photo of them in the bathtub is bizarre. Most people might suggest the water be deepened and a lid put on the tub. Not nice, but, true.

I am pretty sure the cat would not show this film to his other cat buddies out in the alley, he would never hear the end of it.

Rat Loves Cat Video

Well, here's my rat story:

We had a young feral cat (NEVER FERAL AGAIN!)that liked to hunt. It would bring mostly rats, mice, and bunnies with their heads chewed off and leave them outside our son's door - I guess to teach him how to hunt. He also brought them in alive and then play with them.

One day he forgot to kill his play rat and it took up residence in the back of our refrigerator, even built a nest. Now, we hadn't rat-proofed our house enough, so several buddies also invaded our house. Their entrance was next to the dishwasher, up the inside of the wall, and out/in at the sloped eave. On their in and out, they would pee on the insulation around the dishwasher. There was rat crap everywhere! Pretty gross! I was trap-killing them on a regular basis with cheeze and peanut butter. We had traps all over our kitchen. One rather large rat constantly evaded execution.

We had some strawberry plants on the patio and one day I brought the ripe ones in, washed them, and left them on the counter for my wife and son. When I asked how they were, their response was "what strawberries?" Ahha, now maybe I had a chance in this battle! ...Duh, they were probably fruit rats!!

I baited a trap, covered up the rest of the trap, and placed it on the counter. Next morning, justice was served, and this was the beginning of the end of our rat issue.
Notice I said the beginning....it went on for several more months, six months in all.

Here's a picture of my buddy.

Never trust a dead rat

From Wikipedia

Dead rats were prepared for use by the British Special Operations Executive in World War II against Germany. Rat carcasses were filled with plastic explosives, to be left in locations such as factories where, it was hoped, the stoker tending a boiler would likely dispose of the unpleasant discovery by shoveling it into the furnace, causing it to explode. The rats contained only a small amount of explosive; however, a puncture of a high-pressure boiler could trigger a devastating boiler explosion.

I can understand having to bait and trap them. They would just turn your house into their next rat pimping headquarters if you don't. If anyone saw the finale of this seasons "Hoarders", it's sorta like that except the rats aren't friendly.

Looks like the rat you caught was the typical Norway rat.

Save your money on the traps and just buy foods that kill rats. Foods on the "ratty no-no" list. Raw yams, oranges & orange juice turn to poison inside the rat; apple seeds contain cyanide and kill the rat. They choke on gummy type of stuff like licorice, gummy bears, etc...

Course then one has to worry about ants and bugs. 😐

Rat Loves Cat Video

Cats were probably first domesticated in the middle east several thousand years ago. Small cats would likely sneak into the village to hunt the rats which were after grains stored by humans. The human resident's of the village would not have minded this new counter to their rat problem so the cats were allowed to stay and eventually became domesticated.
