Given that they've already had an assistant coach indicted in federal court; I suspect the initial instinct to make a smart ass response to the US Attorney and the FBI is probably poor course of action.

Could be. I have an acquaintance who is an attorney who says startling things like this when dealing with legal matters. It is amazing what positive results it gets him...

Haha....the appearance date was a year before the date of the letter. Talk about being set up to fail....
When the warrant or subpoena has incorrect and conflicting information spelled out, it is practically useless.
A Sheriff's Deputy appeared at my door early one morning and handed me a subpoena to appear in District Court and they had my name spelled wrong.
Told him, that was not me, showed him my ID, told him to have the DA to call me, said "I do not have to show up unless I am being hired to testify in court" and he left with tail between his legs.
Did not ever have to go to court and testify.
It??s only a GJ subpoena. It can be corrected. It would be ill-advised of the attorneys for the university challenge the mistake.
I??ll be the contrarian opinion for the sports topic.
To end this charade of NCAA rules and laws, student athletes should be paid in major sports at the universities. Besides tuition, health and housing expenses, they should receive a considerable compensation. Profit share a modest annual salary. They should be invested.
The elite athletes will still venture into professional sports after a brief college career.
University and athletic departments, TV networks, shoe and sport replica companies are stuffing their pockets with $$$ from college athletics. Coaches are being paid well into 7 figures that do not include endorsements; radio and TV show fees etc. etc.
Amateur athletics is an anachronism. Our Olympic teams are reflective of this. Basketball, hockey, track, swimming, golf etc. are not amateurs.
