Janet Reno, who rose from a rustic life on the edge of the Everglades to become attorney general of the United States ÛÓ the first woman to hold the job ÛÓ and whose eight years in that office placed her in the middle of some of the most divisive episodes of the Clinton presidency, has died at age 78, The Associated Press reported.
Ms. Reno died early Monday from complications of ParkinsonÛªs disease, The A.P. reported, citing her goddaughter Gabrielle DÛªAlemberte. Ms. Reno learned she had ParkinsonÛªs disease in November 1995.
I had the pleasure of working with Ms. Reno, and Sandy D'Alemberte for about two years while employed with ITT Community Development Corp.tax suit against Flagler County Florida. Quite an interesting woman with a tremendous sense of humor.
I have had several relatives succumb to Parkinson's and it's really heartbreaking to watch. I wish her family well.
Reno's story is a notorious example of how a brief snapshot of a long career can determine how one is viewed by public sentiment, possibly unfairly. Hopefully history will be kinder and more informative of her accomplishments. RIP MS. Reno.
Will Ferrell can stop doing his gawdawful impersonations of her now. They were horrible and more disrespectful of a public figure than is common on SNL, and some are very bad.
Now you have me looking for will ferrells impersonations!
It's funny how history is written.
She was the third choice for AG because the previous two nominees withdrew their names because of having illegal nannies at the time.

I would have thought you would have been the second to the last person on this board to watch SNL, me being the last.
I have never watched it longer than it takes me to find the remote.

I have problems with folks who are affronted with political satire. Usually they think they are important in some way while having a big stick up their keister.
I believe Janet Reno appeared with Will Ferrell in Reno drag on SNL once. So obviously she wasnt offended so good for her.
We had a situation here last week where a local posted a fake new story on FB about early voting fraud in the Parish. It was created on a internet site and it was funny political satire. It was about him and his 5 cats casting early ballots. He named our new clerk of court (who I voted for) in the faux Onion like post. The clerk of court got bent out of shape about it and threatened law suits etc. Too bad, she handled it all wrong, IMO.

what is SNL? and who is Will Ferrell?
SNL= Saturday Night Live.
Will Ferrell is a "comedian". Not my type of humor (at least the vast majority of it)
I've been watching SNL since it began. In fact, saw it two days ago with Benedict Cumberbatch as the guest host. I've seen a little bit of everything on there at one time or another. That includes the infamous "vomitorium" skit parodying ancient Rome. Nearly anyone who is a significant public figure has been assaulted in some form, either once or a thousand times. Ferrell's impersonations of Reno were offensive to me and I was not a Janet Reno fan to start with. They were crude and unnecessary.
I haven't watched SNL since it became stupid instead of funny. Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy (Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood), those were the days!

I agree. But Ms. Reno didn't give two hoots in hell what anybody thought of her, she was simply Janet, period.
What many people don't know is that Ms. Reno and Marjory Stoneman Douglas were friends. One day at work (lunch) Janet noticed I was reading "River of Grass" and asked how I liked it. My reply was that I was fascinated by it and wished it was longer. She went on to tell me her fun experiences with Ms. Douglas. Classic old Florida tales involving the Everglades, canoes, fish, and, of course alligators.
Smartest woman I have ever met!
