Yesterday I stopped at a grocery store to grab something from the deli for lunch and as I was finishing up a call in my truck I say a fella walking towards the store wearing a t-shirt with a image of the earth flattened out with the words "It's Flat Bro" below the image.
When I walked in he was at the deli and I could not resist the urge to engage him in conversation and whew it was something else.
He was a fire breathing Flat Earth believer and began weaving in bible verses and other anecdotal "evidence" to support his belief. It was touch and go there for a moment and I had to seriously resist the urge to inform him he is a bloody idiot who should not be allowed to make important decisions on his own, like whether to put mayo or mustard on his sandwich.
I actually met a surveyor once who is a true believer in a Flat Earth so this stuff must be contagious.

We ALL know the earth is not flat, it has hills and valleys. (grin)

Some people are just plain Loony Tunes.
Most the time I do flatten my work into mile by mile squares, but, I don't have a shirt about it.
Were you tempted to break out the autolevel and a rod and show him?
Not on your life.
He spoke of going to Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga where it claims on a good day you're able to see 7 states. I wouldn't know if I was able to see 7 states but it is a neat little tourist attraction. Anyway he talked of that and how the distance to those 7 states with the curvature of the "so called round earth" you would not be able to see those other states unless the earth is flat and because you can see them from Lookout Mountain it is another bit of proof that the earth is flat BRO.
He was proselytizing with the young checkout gal and she was quite shocked.
I am temped to buy one and wear it to the next surveyors' conference.?ÿ
That is a brilliant idea, I like it. ????ÿ

An interesting sidebar on the bible verse quotes. As a surveyor with a seminary background I've researched this a bit...
The OT talks about the earth being covered by a tent. This conjures images of a wall tent on a flat surface. The language used actually refers to a tent with a floor encompassing an object on all sides.
There are common geocentric references throughout just as in the rest of society. Even scientists use the phrase sunrise and sunset. Not putting forth the bible as a science?ÿ text or starting p& r. Just pointing out that in several places it is apparent the writers knew we weren't the flat center of everything.
