Here's the inside of my stand-up bass.

I have repaired Bass Bar, (1" x 2" the brace on the back side of the top), which was split and coming unglued and repaired all of the thin wood glue strips that were loose.

I have removed the block (lower right, where the neck attaches) and need to reglue it to the the rest of the body. I'm thinking of using the Titebond wood glue here (as opposed to Hide Glue), as it should NOT need to be removed again.

After I reattach this Block, I will be ready to reglue the top back on with Hide Glue. Anyone got any bright ideas of other things I should do before putting it back together?

Tape a note inside detail when/where you got the bass and when you did the repairs and who you are. It would be a neat find for the next guy down the line.

Good idea Snoop

The only marking inside was a sticker that said:

GERMANY (USSR OCCUPIED)

Perry- is this an attempt at a personnel economic stimulus?
If I were to attempt a project like that, rest assured that as soon as I had it about 85% DIS-assembled, I'd have an influx of work (and/or repairs) that would guarantee I couldn't touch it again for a solid year.. rankin's 1st axiom of spare time....

- that is a cool project.

You've killed it. :-O

Just because you can't see the magic smoke like you can with electronics, doesn't mean you didn't let it all out.

Seriously, good effort, there is nothing magical about working on musical instruments, but there are some do's and don'ts, one of which is the type of materials and adhesives used.

The character of the unique voice of any musical instrument lies as much in the imperfections as they do in what was done right. Willie Nelson has demoed hundreds of Martin acoustics looking for a backup for Trigger, and says he has never found one even close.

Yes - take it outside. Hot hide glue stinks to high heaven.
