I've wheelchair bound friends who like me (ambulatory) are sometimes aghast at the huge expense of marginal access improvements dictated by ADA requirements.?ÿ In some cases it's a racket where a predatory attorney engages in shakedown operations.
A personal example is the marina ramp(s) where my boat is slipped.?ÿ Built in 1987 and somewhat steep (not ADA compliant) at low tide and?ÿ a disabled sailor's club keeps their boats there.?ÿ It would cost a half a million to reconfigure the marina ramps to be ADA compliant, which would also reduce the marina capacity by 10-20 slips.?ÿ The present solution is helpers to get wheelchair folks up/down the ramp safely.?ÿ Why does the gubm'nt have to stick its nose into marginal ADA problems when the users accept the status quo?
Well, I am guessing that use depends on how many Colin Furse wheel chairs are out there

@mike-marks The ADA is one of those great ideas that nobody can argue with UNTIL the bureaucrats get involve in interpreting the law and creating the regulations. Now there are lawyers (ptui) who are making quite a bit of money searching out and suing establishments that do not meet the letter of the law (or regulations as the case may be).
