Here's what the 10ga. copper looks like from the house to the garage:
It's been there since the '40s. I bet it makes it.
I can't say that for my last remaining pecan tree. I had two others cut down after the '07 ice storm. My last is probably next.
You have a bigger pile of ice than I do. There! I said it! Yours is bigger than mine.
We, however, are suffering as well. This morning we had approximately 1/8 inch of ice on absolutely everything outdoors. But, there had been quite a bit of moisture that arrived with that making virtually every little depression full and now flat. Feeding the critters was a very slow, very careful process. Since then the freezing rain has increased producing very large depressions now full and flat. Even with a very heavy pickup with a heavier than normal flatbed with hydraulic bale spear attached, locked in four low, the top speed on gravel roads had to be kept below 20 mph. Ten to 15 was much better. The paved roads are slicker yet. No sudden, or even half sudden, moves allowed. No salt trucks for us. Nothing but warm air and sunshine will reverse the current situation, which is growing a bit worse every minute.
It's finally quit..
..with the freezing rain. Quit about sundown.
There's a solid 3/4" of ice all over everything. I've got about 800 lbs. of ice and pecan tree that landed smack-dab in the middle of the driveway. On a normal day Money Penny's Wrangler would have been there, except I tucked all the vehicles up beside the house and away from the trees last night.
It's a big mess around here. Lots of folks without power, but we've still got it. I'm just afraid the wind is going to pick up tonight as this low passes and screw everything up.
Pray for a chinook..
Tire chains or studded tires will help you get around on the farm and rural roads.
I am sure glad that you two are having the wonderful opportunity to experience this ice storm instead of me... yuk-yuk.
Give me snow any day.
Paden, you lucky dog
Checked your forecast versus ours. You are supposed to get all the way up to 30 today and above freezing tomorrow. We've had our high already and are headed for 1 overnight with above freezing temps a possibility on Tuesday. Not likely, but possible. Your ice may thaw a bit today if you can get some sunshine this afternoon. Ours is locked in until at least Tuesday. We have a very thin layer of snow on top of our ice.
Well, time to pull on the arctic wear and go visit the critters. Ho, ho, ho!
We have at least 6 inches of snow over a very thin layer of ice. I sanded the icy sidewalk yesterday before the snow but only a narrow strip of the driveway.
This morning my wife decided it was time to clear the snow. By the time I got out to help a neighbor was also helping. The neighbor fell down in the driveway but got up easily and seemed ok. I was so upset I ordered her to go home because I didn't want people falling down in my driveway. Later I took a plate of cookies and apologized for getting so upset. I told her I did appreciate the thought but she had scared me pretty bad.
I had visions of lawsuits, ill will in the neighborhood, and doubled insurance premiums.
There's another neighbor who is out-of-work and left flyers with a decent price to clear the snow, but I'm sure he isn't "in the business" and he would be on my homeowner's insurance. I'd like to help him out but won't risk it.
Be careful out there.
Nasty, this has been the worst late fall I can ever remember, prolonged below zero temps, reaching to -30, lots if snow and last week it finally got a bit above freezing so we got a wet snow which promptly turned to ice then the temps plunged and it snowed on top of the ice. Today I spent a wonderful winter day on 400 miles of interstate, much of it icy, while watching drivers going wayyy to fast. Accidents, all which could have been avoided if drivers would just slow down. Lost count of all the tracks, run over reflector posts, stuck vehicles getting pulled out and three really ugly wrecks.

The pic of your ice decorations could be at North Aboyne Farm.
Similar ice, hydro out from 2:30ish am to 3:00ish this aft.
Hydro back on as I write.
Cheers for the season,
Alexandra and Derrek
The same neighbor's husband fell in their own driveway and he gashed his leg on some part of the snowblower, bad enough they went to the instant care place.
Once it gets below 50° what's the sense in keeping track, it's just cold.
