Just curious...
Body art/piercing is an interesting thing. I was absolutely against both until I had a daughter. Right around the age of 16 she started expressing an interest in these things - made me almost as nervous as the guys she was seeing. She had a friend that had an eyebrow pierced and was leaning that direction, so we had a chat. I agreed to pay for a bellybutton piercing if she would agree not to pierce her beautiful face until she was at least 18. She agreed and it worked out great. we lived in a cold climate and that bellybutton was covered most of the time. She's 30 now, has pierced ears, wears beautiful jewelry, and has a gorgeous plumeria blossom on the top of her right foot. I have also traveled a bit and discovered that what we do here is for the most part far less than in a lot of cultures.
What really freaks me out is guys with giant plugs in their earlobes. Those are going to look so bad when they get old. Fortunately I won't be around to see them!
I'm no fashionista, but I think that the tattoo fad has crested and will soon go the way of bell bottoms and tie-dye. Same with serial piercings and pants down around the thighs.

years ago travelling in Briton, on the London subway, a skinhead sat next to me, across his throat he had tattooed SCUMBAG, I'll never forget that guy. That was almost 30 years ago now

No boys, so it didn't come up, as they say.
However, I am aware of a relative whose parents decided to let him decide. A couple of months of communal showers in P.E. and he opted to have the deed done.
A former boss told of his personal experience of going to the hospital to have his tonsils removed and awoke to discover significant discomfort in a region far from his throat. I think he was about 11 at the time. The parents didn't bother to mention ahead of time that more than his tonsils would be leaving him. Of course, you expect that type of passionate concern from parents who would name their son Ralph.

Jim, the worst is the gals in their 40's with the pierced nose. They usually wear a small stud, either black or diamond - ALWAYS reminds me of a zit or black head that needs popped. Not attractive to me.
I mean I could get past it, but at first glance it's kind of out of place.
Moe - I wonder if somebody else gave him that tattoo?
In a Big Bang Theory episode, Raj and Howard wore arm stockings that were made to look like they were heavily tattooed. The idea was they would wear them to a Goth dance and appear cool, more likely to be successful with the women in attendance.
That seems like a good solution to me, temporary.
Every time this topic arises, my only thought is
VANITY
What is it good for? To me, absolutely nothing.
If it is making you feel better, goodies for you, BTW it's not showing up anywhere that I can see.
It falls under the column of this is a personal thing and it is not my place on this earth to keep anyone from expressing themselves the way they want.
I get the same "no you didn't" reaction when I put Picante sauce on eggs.
