Yesterday, I was staking line around a new facility near the check station and saw these stats.
Hunters 523
Whitetail 31
Mule deer 2
Elk 6
Moose 0
Black bear 1
The FWP guys had a 6x7 whitetail in the back of their truck that they'd confiscated.

You guys ever worry about going out in the field to survey during hunting season??? I always worried about that when Wendell would go out in the field into the thick foresty places to do surveys. Many times there was an article in the paper about loggers getting mistaken for a deer and getting shot at!! I didn't want him to get shot!! :-O

If the season started Saturday, why did the Wildlife guys confiscate a deer taken in season?:-|

It just doesn't seem worth the risk!
Not sure in this case, but there are several possiblities- most likely, shot on private land w/o permission to hunt.

Those are the out-of-staters- 1 a day and 1 in possession- dangerous to eat because of the high fat content.......... 😉

Down here in the south we call that a very nice 13 point buck.
The game wardens out at our Wildlife Refuge arrested two ghosts yesterday.
Neither had a valid haunting license on them.

We don't worry too much about our crews being mistaken for deer when they are out in the field. First of all, the deer would not be talking that bad about the guys back in the office and too, the deer don't know that many bad words to use when they fall over a log.
Four guys have been going to the same moose camp for many years.
Two days before the group is to leave, Don's wife puts her foot down and tells him
he isn't going.
Don's friends are very upset that he can't go, but what can they do.
Two days later the three get to the camping site only to find Don sitting there
with a tent set up, firewood gathered, and dinner cooking on the fire.
Dang man, how long you been here, and how did you talk your wife into letting
you go?"
"Well, I've been here since yesterday."
Yesterday evening, I was sitting in my chair at home and my wife came up behind
me and put her hands over my eyes and said. 'guess Who?' I pulled her hands off,
and she was wearing a brand new nightie.
She took my hand and pulled me to our bedroom. The room had candles and rose
petals all over. On the bed she had handcuffs, and ropes!
She told me to tie and cuff her to the bed, and I did. And then she said,
"Do whatever you want."
So, here I am.
