This is a locals secret, but I'm willing to share with fellow beerleggers..
Just don't tell speldeus! 😉
Great place to have lunch. Didn't know you had so many in your neighborhood.
😀
May wife (Harwichport local) finds this especially funny. Mostly that is says "Metropolitan" in describing the Cape....
I always used the Cape Cod tunnel, when venturing out there. Much faster than either of the two bridges that cross the canal.
Don, who do you think laid out the subway on the lower cape? I guess I won't share with you my grandmother's back road route to get from Chatham to the bridge with less than one mile of traffic at 3pm on a Sunday.
The best was a guy who went into the Chatham Town Offices, got up to the Secretary of the Selectmen and demanded one of those Cape Cod Canal Tunnel Permits and the location of the tunnel. After being told one did not exist he became very irate: I am a taxpayer and you cannot stop me from this essential piece of infrastructure! She directed him to the local 5 and dime to collect his sticker.
Or how about when I was surveying down in South Chatham by the old RCA tower. It's just a couple pieces of concrete in the salt marsh now. A couple came up and asked what we were surveying. I replied, The bridge to Nantucket. They said, oh that will be convenient, to which I replied, Yeah, especially since the old one fell in, and pointed to the old tower base. It was so much more fun being just field crew...
