It's still 2016 here but many of you are already experiencing 2017.
Weird bit of trivia: The westernmost point in the US that uses Eastern Time is Ontonagon County, MIchigan. This is near the western end of the Upper Peninsula and north of the middle of Wisconsin. That is a heck of a lot further west than anywhere else in another state. Meanwhile, a significant fraction of the Florida Panhandle is on Central Time.

Got some friends in Panama City, FL. I was really surprised they were included in CST.
The way a bunch of states have been split between two time zones can get almost amusing at times. Didn't realize until tonight that two counties is far southwest Texas are on Mountain Time while the entire remainder of the state is on Central Time. Oklahoma is 99.99999 percent Central Time. The only outliers are the fine folk around Kenton near the northwest corner of the Oklahoma Panhandle who do everything on Mountain Time despite, by law, being on Central Time. The alleged population of Kenton in 2010 was 17.
There are all sorts of New Year traditions involving food. We will be enjoying some black-eyed peas for that very reason.
My oldest son is now living in Phoenix. Apparently Arizona is one State that doesn't observe the insanity of Daylight Savings Time. Now Phoenix is one hour earlier than us here in the CST. After we switch to DST in Spring, Arizona will basically be two hours earlier like PST.
It doesn't matter to my son however...he's TDY in Fairbanks, AK right now.
Time to answer the question asked earlier. I am AWAKE at midnight Central Time.

Though I truly appreciate (and agree) with Arizona's sentiment, it can lead to some confusion (at least for the easily confused such as me).
When visiting AZ, if I wanted to be in a neighboring state at a specific time for something, it could get challenging remembering what time it was in AZ, what time it was in the neighboring state, what time I wanted to be there, what time I had to leave to get there, etc......
I just wish we could do something "drastic" like split the difference between standard and daylight savings and have everybody run with it....
Oh no... you don't want that. My brother is stationed in Afghanistan as a subcontractor which is 11 1/2 hrs (time zones) from MST. Apparently there and a couple others have different time zones. https://www.timeanddate.com/time/time-zones-interesting.html
