What amazed me along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan were the mountain ridges of ice frozen all the way to the lake bottom. Climbing over several of those ridges in midwinter was an adventure not for the faint of heart. But, that's what it took to be able to see flat ice and eventually ice floes.

The SS Edmund Fitzgerald's Sister Ship the SS Arthur M. Anderson (reported to be first on the scene of the Fitzgerald's demise) is still in continuous (1952-present) service for U.S. Steel Fleet. While not the biggest on the Lakes, she is still a grand sight to see.
