It is becoming more and more likely that Texas, OU, Okie State and Texas Tech will join the Pac 12 making them the Pac 16.

When will all this silliness stop. TAMU to the SEC has been okayed by the SEC in todays reports on ESPN.

Syracuse and Pitt jumped ship from the Big East to join the ACC, giving it 14 teams.

Shouldn't they do this stuff in the off season? It's very distracting and my worry is we are going to lose a lot of traditions among close rivals.

And the bottom line is it's all about markets and ad revenue. Money and greed just like everything else in the world it seems. Sigh.

Solace in Good Football

Hopefully this will lead to excellent football (at least it better).
Most Strong rivalries will probably remain intact but some of the lesser rivalry games will go by the wayside. I feel bad for the schools with strong basketball or other sports i.e. Kansas. But with the talk of conference merger between a wrecked big 12 and Big East it might salvage those sports.

At the End of the Day the best we can hope for is awesome football.

I hope your right but the distances now involved will curtail my traveling on the road games for my Pokes. I suppose it could actually create some new great rivalry's though so I'm hopeful. I just wish the dust would settle and we could then concentrate on who is where.

It would be interesting if Oklahoma and Okie State follow Texas A&M to the SEC! Man that would be a beast of a conference! But I tend to agree how a lot of traditions would be lost over revenue.

The problem is there is nobody in charge of the NCAA like Major League Baseball's Commissioner. There is no "For the good of the game" rule like MLB has that basically lets the commish rule as he pleases.

I'm pissed off that A&M and my horns aren't in the same conference. They BETTER figure something out for thanksgiving or I'll really be upset, along with lots of other Texans. Ratings will fall off.

The best thing about the BIG 12 is that nearly EVERY game is a top 10 rivalry game. Without that, well, what's the point?

Just watch an SEC game, you'll be alright.

Dan

I watch the SEC from time to time, but it's another region, and it's not the same.

That and I don't think all of the SEC teams would fair really well in the Big 12.

🙂

I love college football smack talk!

Three week (3 games) playoff.

If you can get four 16 team leagues, then you can start a quasi playoff similar to the NCAA basketball tournament (or there abouts).

Each league has two divisions. That would make eight division winners that would square off to be league champ (1st playoff game). Four champs then play the next week (2nd playoff game), that leaves two to battle for overall championship (3rd and last playoff game).

For teams that are already playing a conference playoff game and then a bowl game, you would only be adding one more game.

Three week (3 games) playoff.

I do sort of like the idea of a playoff system. I don't like to see a conference setup that is so big that teams within that conference don't get to play each other due to the limited number of games, but..... thats how it is now anyway. Guess each super conference would split into halves and then host the top Secured teams in the playoffs along with a wildcard type bid.

Who know how it's all going to pan out.. Lots of schools chasing the big media money deals right now.

Really? The little 12?

I know you have Texas pride, and understand why, but EVERYONE knows where the toughest conference is.
I won't mention any names, but it's initials are:

S

E

C

It's sad to see someone with so much promise, so delusional.

In my opinion, OU would play texass and OSU no matter what conference they were in. I too hate to see the Big 12 go by the wayside, but Bebee is to blame.

The SEC is the only conference that we need. The others are just side shows to keep the locals happy until they can get over here and watch a REAL football game. 😉
