The stick-up-their-butts at the University of Kansas on Snob Hill who have now been defeated in football by the Kansas State University Wildcats at Silo Tech (KU's name for it) for 15 consecutive years have no sense of humor. Meanwhile, the Iowa State University Cyclones are much more fun-loving. Being a fellow Land Grant University, they seem to truly enjoy playing against the first Land Grant University established west of the Mississippi River. Thus the name----------FARMAGEDDON-------------to recognize the gridiron battle that will occur this weekend.
The #19 Wildcats have lost two games in the Big 12 Conference and are tied for second place. The losses were at #7 Texas and at #21 Oklahoma State. Their only other loss was at #10 Missouri. With all of the crazy realignment of conferences, this year found 14 schools in the Big 12.
I like the sound of that over the Oregon Civil War
It seems there are many college football games that carry specific names indicating an enduring rivalry between the schools. The KSU vs KU game is called the Sunflower Showdown as the State flower is the sunflower. The Oklahoma and Oklahoma State game is called the Bedlam Series. The Texas vs Oklahoma game is the Red River Shootout and always held at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The winner gets the Golden Hat, a gold 10-gallon cowboy hat. Purdue and Indiana play for the Old Oaken Bucket. The winner of the Michigan and Michigan State game receives the Paul Bunyan Trophy
Don't forget to watch the Apple Cup this Saturday...
The Georgia Tech versus University of Georgia game is "Clean Old Fashioned Hate".
