My cousin, who lives up the road in Madras, Oregon sent these photos taken by her neighbor. Cousin is perplexed by the fact that her husband and son have to go all the way to eastern Oregon to hunt elk while these 12 dudes gallivant around the local farmer’s fields:
I have to wonder the same thing? So may be she needs to buy a rifle and have elk steaks ready for the boys once they get home!:-$
Great photos! Thanks for posting them. JRL
Awesome, wish I saw those boys on the Coast this year.
The one time I ate elk, the cook did not know what she was doing. It was like trying to cut and chew the sole of my rubber boot. Anyone know how to do it properly?
Elk is the most amazing game meat I have ever eaten. Sweet & tender.
🙂
Elk is a very lean meat. One must never overcook it, it will turn to boot leather as you state.
Sautee some butterflied elk chops in butter and carmelized onions. Fresh grilled vegetables and a nice bottle of your favorite red wine.
Yum.
Funny, I was sent these photos on my cell phone last week claiming a geographic location as well. At out next local elbow rubbing event I will have to fact check my picture message.

I think this is what happened when I had an Elk burger. It tasted real funny and burnt!! :-/

>December 5, 2010 about 10:00 am, We live four miles south of Madras about 1/2 mile off Hwy 97, just before where Bear Drive crosses the highway. Sunday morning my husband was looking out our south dining room window, he saw these elk coming out of Whitaker's field on SW Bear Drive....

Consider the location CONFIRMED!
It seems like I had a chance to try some Elk once and it was really tasty (unlike Venison).
