I guess I won't be going back to Egypt anytime soon. As some of you may remember, I had a project there in 2007. Part of what we did was to accurately position some aluminum poles out in the desert. I can't get in to what they were for, but they were made in the US, sent over there and installed on concrete bases, then we determined an accurate position for each one.

I got a call last year that we need to do that again, as all of the poles were removed (stolen), most likely for the scrap value. These were on military bases, but I guess that wasn't any real protection.

Last time I asked, we were going to go over this spring. Not likely now...Even after things calm down I don't know if the changes there will be such that they cancel the program.

I was also there in 2007 (December), and although I had a good time, and would love to take my Grandsons there....it won't be anytime soon!

Who knows how this will eventually shake out? Maybe I got it crossed off my Bucket List just in time!

Just looking at the history of that part of the world should give you a good clue as to what to expect. In order to hold power in that area of the world and up to and through Pakistan will require a harsh leader of the whole area with a very big stick used regularly, then there could be an imposed peace, "not freedom", for a time. Just don't expect it to last and don't invest any money into it. The mobs and the drug cartels also require similar leadership and the term of leadership is short.

Changes in government have a way of killing projects. I was supposed to go to Madagascar for a project. Then the government was overthrown and the project died. I was looking forward to meeting the hissing cockroach......:-)
