When a high school student trying to run is tripped by his falling pants, it’s time to reinforce the dress code.

That’s what teachers and principals at Greenwood Community High School decided after a student tried to run away from a teacher while wearing saggy pants. He didn’t get very far: his pants were so low that he had trouble moving and keeping his clothes on at the same time, assistant principal Karen Busch said.

LOL! I spent seven years teaching in an inner city high school, so I know the problem well. Dress codes are always challenged, but if teachers and administrators enforce them consistently, they do add a measure of discipline. I hope these guys are able to do that.

That school had 9 math teachers and no one was allowed to be a prima donna. I taught AP calculus and Algebra 1 repeaters, so I saw the best and the worst every day.

My current school has had a 100% graduation rate for the past 5 years. I can actually teach every class for the full 90 minutes without incident.

Teaching is sometimes a job for laid-off college graduates. If you don't want to teach, and deal with the unimaginable baggage that students bring to school every day, then you won't make as a teacher.

In my day bell bottoms were dumb enough. Having the crouch of your pants at knee level, that's really stupid^3.

The core traits of fashion in any form are impracticality and differentiation from what has been the norm. At that age replace differentiation with disapproval by someone outside their social set.
