https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/china-rocket-falling-news-long-march-5b-b1841771.html

Has anyone found a website to track the "out of control" Chinese rocket yet. It should be big enough to see from earth at the right time of the early morning sunrise or evening sunset.

I'm not sure if it is still updated and maintained

Maybe the rocket crashed into the tracking station

The site works for me but I don't see how to link the specific internal page.

It shows a current altitude of 125 mi or 200 km. At what altitude does the drag get serious?

Edit- now approaching 100 mi/160 km and speed not changing. Perigee may be over south atlantic?

Perigee seemed to be around 98 miles, just SE of Rio de Janerio after passing across the US from Oregon to New Orleans. Next pass will be about a time zone and a half west.

62 miles
So it depends on how elliptical the orbit is.
?ÿ
Due to?ÿatmospheric drag, the lowest?ÿaltitude?ÿabove the Earth at which an object in a circular orbit can complete at least one full revolution without propulsion is approximately 150 km (93 mi) while the lowest perigee of an elliptical revolution is approximately 90 km (56 mi).

Those who can be blamed for this massive failure have probably already been escorted to the middle of the desert to pound sand for the remaining days of their lives.

48275 is Space Commands issued number to CZ-5B. ?????ÿ

I saw one report of the possible location of re-entry plus or minus 540 minutes. With a 90 minute orbit, that's just completely stupid.

Awesome site, If you go to that website and then click on the "10 Day Predictions" It will list every opportunity to see the junk go by.

@jaro

If you want to see if the skies will be clear during a pass, go to cleardarksky.com. It will pass very close to me tomorrow morning at 4:35 AM local time, but the skies will not be conducive to seeing it.?ÿ

@bill93

"For Earth,?ÿatmospheric entry?ÿoccurs by convention at the K?rm?n line at an?ÿaltitude?ÿof 100 km (62 miles; 54 nautical miles) above the surface,"

It's apparently slowed by drag first in perigee and slowly into atmospheric entry where it overheats and disintegrates. Must be like driving into a rainstorm? ???? ?ÿ

From Twitter, Not sure about ANYONE that would post a longitude of 180.5:

Latest TIP (as of 2021-05-08 0222Z) for CZ-5B (#LongMarch5B) (48275 / 2021-035B) shows projected re-entry at 2021-05-09 0252(UTC) +/- 360 minutes at latitude -39.4 longitude 180.5. NOTE: Still not a reliable time or location, given the large window; both will still vary wildly

Notice to governments, curiosity seekers, meteorite hunters, and all others: I'm keeping whatever falls on my property. Don't even think about trying to take it away from me. In fact, don't even come near my lawn!

Why not? For anyone who works with the whole earth, longitude is defined 0-360 going East.

The West longitude we often see is for people who only think about the one hemisphere.

Two thoughts:

If it falls on land I expect some authority to claim it. But not pay damages.

Does your house insurance cover the damage?

@bill93

Good question. i may have to sue the Chinese for the damages, but I'm keeping the debris.
