hauled my daughter and a handful of her classmates an hour down the road yesterday to visit the Alamo. Of course we got there half an hour before the rest of the cars (people trust their google maps way more than they trust surveyors who know every last backroad within 200 miles...)
First: I'm amazed any of us make it to adulthood. Put 65 13-year olds together and they're doing everything they can to fall off something, run into something, piss somebody off. It was a good reminder, though, to be glad I have daughters. The boys are just abject idiots. Good kids, but dumber than the day is long. It was pretty much a nonstop game of grabass the whole time.
Second: this was- by far- the least interesting thing they saw all day (not that they were interested in much of why we shepherded them to San Antonio in the first place):

There is a miracle thing out there called Xanax. Not for you, unless of a pending meltdown, but for the monsters, err children.
Give 'em each a .25mg tablet and tell 'em it's a new kind of Skittle or M&M. They will behave, and be easier to herd up for the ride home.
After you are released from prison you will reminisce it was worth it. 😉
I remember well the experience of seeing the Alamo. My response was something like, "THAT'S IT???????" There isn't much left to display. Since it is totally engulfed by urbanization, it has no identity of what it was all those years ago when it became famous.

Me too. Didn't look anything at all like what was in the Saturday matinee cowboy movies. 😎
You all are silly. Everybody knows the real Alamo is actually north of Brackettville, Tx at the "Alamo Village": 29å¡25'27.92"N, 100å¡23'40.06"W. The building in San Antonio is just the movie set made to hide someone's bicycle in the basement...;)

To be fair they did discontinue the being surrounded by 5000 Mexican Infantry, with artillery support, attraction.
That would have probably added a whole new dimension to the experience. On the upshot, you didn't have to wander around carrying that single shot muzzle loading rifle, so it's probably a wash, all things considered. 🙂
"This plaque commemorates the death of Col. Travis, who died defending the Alamo, across the street where the ripley's believe it or not store now stands."
