Took a break from surveying to check out the site of the Advanced Underwater Weapons (AUW) assembly building. 1950's to early 60' era.

Interesting typo (I think) on that data sheet. 8'-12" thick walls.

Awesome

I don't know what would be more dangerous, nuclear waste, the pealing lead paint, playing chicken with transport planes, yep it would probably be pissing off a bald eagle.

Dang, Daryl!

Made me homesick! I grew up in Kodiak in the 60's and 80's, haven't been back there in almost 30 yrs! Your pictures sure brought back memeories. My late father was an electrician on the base from the late 40's up till '84 when he retired. Grew up there exploring all the old WWII bunkers and observation posts etc. Thanks for the pics! 🙂

Canon 5d MK III, some shots are in HDR mode...some in Auto...different lens types. I was thinking about putting a go pro cam in the Eagles nest...but ...

Kodiak is good duty JD. You still in Nome?

Did some COE work about 10-12 years ago in the Lake Cataouatche araa in SE Louisiana. (Setting some deep set PBMs along shoreline)
There were a few bald eagle nests in the area. We received coordinates of the nests from the LA Dept. WL& F and were told to stay 1000’ ft. from the nests. I think the feds wanted us to keep a 1500’ buffer from any activity near active nests..

Since then, I think these restrictions have been lifted.
But don't know how the BP spill may have affected the restriction lift.

Dang, Daryl!

Headed back to Nome in a week or so, I am a mushroom, kept in the dark and fed BS. Yep, Kodiak was a pretty cool place to grow up in, sure miss the place, but no work to be had really, at least not at what I get here.
