We just finished our holidays witch we started with a weekend trip to Normandy in France.

A view on the little town called Étrétat

and its old picturesque buildings

It's only 400 km but the shoreline is totally different compared to our sandy beaches.

Well known from the Normandy landings in WWII,

the giant cliffs

and the pebble beach

And I think, as so many of us as we go for a walk with the family, one has to find at least one survey marker ... A french Fenopole, same type as we use them in Belgium.

I'm searching some more pictures from our cornerstones to talk about some boundary work in Belgium next time ...

I love holidays, but it's good to be online again!

Christof.

Some survey magazine was working on that exact thing last year, however management of some survey magazine(s) prefer to kiss up to advertisers rather than give the readers what they want, so some editors get fed up.

I don't see a monument in the last photo? Other than some fence posts.

thanks Ron but comparing my pics to Daryls is too much honor for me, there's so much magic in his compositions, that's artwork, Daryl is gifted with the eye of a photographer, I'm not.

Derek, I'd love to travell in a couple of years & would like to meet and greet a lot of posters here. Let's see if we can organise (find a sponsor) for the Surveyorconnect-World-tour. I like the idea to see you at work.

A closer look to the Fenopole for Dave,

and of course I even have a detailed shot

thanks for the intrest.

Had to update the counter ...

Great to see you and the family again. I really like your idea of a Survey Connect world tour. Might be a hard to get many takers with the global economy in the tank but maybe things will be better in a few years when you are ready to go.

Great pictures.

That is a very interesting looking building and the arch carved into the bluff makes for a neat picture.

If we ever got a magazine going, I would definitely want to hire you as the editor!! Tis' a no brainer here. 🙂 Now we are just waiting on my magical lottery ticket to hit the big one. 😉

Hey, Angel and Wendell,

We went to Prague a couple of years ago and it is a city to see. So much history there and the castle complex is a site to behold in itself.

Awesome!

Lucky. 😛

Daryl keeps telling us we need to go there...I just don't want to go when it's freezing! Summer, preferably. Below Zero does not go well with my bones. :-/

Brad,

most people here take 3 weeks during summer, 1 week at Easter and another between Christmas & New Year. How does that compare to holidays in your region?

Me and my wife usually take 4 weeks in the summer and another week at the end of the year. Spent a weekend in France, the 3 weeks at the Belgian coast and another part at the yearly folk festival here in Flanders.

Chr,

Being a solo surveyor, I would be too afraid of losing too many clients by taking 4 weeks, let alone 2 weeks off in a row.

The times they are a changing I guess.

Your friend, Brad

At my old employer, holiday (we call it vacation) time depended on your length of service, 2 weeks after 1 year, 3 weeks after 5 years, 4 weeks after 10 years and 5 weeks after 20 years. This is more generous than most employers that I am familiar with.

I understand,
it's one of the advantaged of working for a large company, after all we're only closed for a week, and then yet one of the 7 surveyors will mostly be available in that one week, It happened to me once.

Some use this system here,

you get a bonus vacation day after 5 years, another after 10y, ...

I like it but can't profit from it now,
