The link is to 38 seconds of the first part of a classic The Andy Griffith Show episode. Barney eventually talks Andy into giving him another bullet despite having spent this one and having lost two others by sending his shirt to the laundry without unloading first. The Mayberry jail becomes the temporary home to "Gentleman Jim" Caldwell, a famous con man who has been in every famous jail/prison in the U.S. Eventually he flimflams Barney, takes his gun, then proceeds to shut Barney, Aunt Bee and Opie in the cell so he can escape. Andy happens to arrive in time, but, he is looking down the barrel of Barney's gun. Knowing there is no chance that there is a bullet in it because Barney swore he would keep it in his pocket, Andy begins to convince "Gentleman Jim" that the gun is empty. He pulls the trigger a few times and gets nothing but clicks so lets Andy lock him back in the cell. Andy takes the gun and pulls the trigger one more time for emphasis. Let's just say the result is startling to everyone present.

I loved that show. It seems like they went color and Barney left. The show was never the same when that heppened. Don Knotts made that show great in my humble opinion. Andy was (I think) an executive producer and it was based on his humor I believe, but it just went sour after Mr. Knotts.

This is crazy, Cow. The wife and I saw this very episode Thursday night.

Went to visit friends in Eugene ORE. and stayed at a motel w/cable TV. Maureen didn't know about Barney just being issued one bullet, to be pocketed at all times, so I had to narrate as the story unfolded on the screen. As smart and well read and worldly as she is, it dumbfounds me as to how little she knows about Andy Griffith, Gilligan's Island and the Beverley Hillbillies. We are both the same age... she was just misguided during her youth I suppose.

What are the odds?

This episode appeared at 12:30 p.m. today on our local FOX station. It's the standard old show that fills that time slot on weekdays. We used to get I Love Lucy from 12:00 to 12:30 as well, but they dropped that a couple months back.

Check out IMDB to find the history of the three escaped convicts and Mr. O'Malley. The four of them appeared in about every TV show you can think of in the 50's to the 70's. One of the gals was on four episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, but the other three times her name was Blanche. Start by going to season three and episode eleven of The Andy Griffith Show.
