According to Bonnie, Bananas are going to be extinct by 2015. WTF? I have been eating Bananas my whole life, every day. I love Bananas, this is terrible news! I am perfectly serious.
Oranges and peaches are too messy, I can't stand it. Apples are OK. I like cantaloupe.
Snopes says there is indeed a problem with the Cavendish banana, the one most often seen in our stores and dominating the world market, but its spread was being controlled as of 2007.

A fungus is attacking the roots of plants in asia, but major plantations around the world were as of the writing date able to prevent the spread of the disease by not allowing importation of infected plants or soil.
Another article was pessimistic on how long it could be controlled.

There are 300 varieties of banana, so you may be seeing more of them if producers decide to diversify.
Bananas and cantaloupe, my two favorites....;-)
Dave,
Do you have a problem with mosquitoes while survey? I had a kid working for me that ate bananas all the time, the mosquitoes would eat him alive and not bother me, I didn't them when I was working.
Dave,
no particular problem with mosquitoes.
they seem to bother younger people more at least in my experience.
Dave,

Hub, thats true. At least it was for me back in MI with its neverending supply of mosquitoes. I never ate them from spring through fall.
Alternatively, heavy consumption of garlic in any form will prevent them from sticking you. As long as you can deal with their persistant buzzing, they won't get too close. I averaged over a cluster a week cooked in a variety of dishes. Good stuff. Still do, since they alledge that it is good for your heart.
Apparently, something similar happened in the sixties.....and wiped out the banana of choice at that time. Here is a link to a PDF:

I love my bananas too.
What would I do if there were no more banana pudding, OMG, I hope that never happens.
We get several varieties, usually the regular one found in all markets and a baby variety the wife makes into banana soup. Her secret recipe. I only know that it includes coconut juice, rice and a few other ingredients that are a mystery. yummy
We will also get a giant variety as a last resort.
😉
Garlic pudding..........
I think not.;-)
Dave,
Tell him to up the amount of onion and garlic in his diet, helps keep pretty much everything away.
