the post below re bacon lollypop made me think of the bacon I recently had in Hawaii.
It was just so tasty - smoked like I've never had bacon.
Downside for us, it was so fatty. Probably 80% fat the rest meat. Not what we are used to in Australia.
Is your bacon real smoked or artificial? It tasted like the real stuff.
mmmm..... bacon...
Was it hickory smoked?
REAL Bacon comes from pork bellies. The belly fat of the hog has some muscle interwoven amongst it. The belly is sliced off the animal a couple inches thick, then smoked (usually hickory), and sliced into the thin slices you see next to your eggs in the morning.
Fat content in bacon varies wildly because of the make up of the pork belly itself. In my opinion proper bacon is 25-45% fat. Much fatter than any other cut of meat I can think of.
It's my understanding that bacon as Americans know it is not that common overseas. Most of the world has what we call Canadian Bacon, which is just thin slice ham- much leaner.

mmmmmm bacon....
Thanks for replies.
Don't know what the smoke was from.
I grew up on a farm and dad would get a couple pigs smoked each year. The sides would hang in my bedroom and the fragrance would waft about the house. I'd even snip bits off and chew them.
We raised porkers and baconers.
Our bacon here is streaky (mixed fat and meat) like yours but a full rasher has the bit of eye fillet on.
Got rather partial to that Hawaiian bacon. Will send that link to my daughter.
That did make my mouth water.
